Robert Crumb (born August 30, 1943 in Philadelphia) is considered a founding father of the underground comics movement. He is highly respected for the distinctive style of his drawings and for his critical, satirical and subversive glance on mainstream culture.
Crumb draws his inspiration from early 20th-century cartoon styles, that he mixes with social satire ; as he deals with many different themes (blues and jazz music, mind-altering substances, libidinal obsessions, inhibitions, difficult human relationships, politics...), he contributes to build a historical testimony about the contemporary world.
